I Want To Go To School, Mom!

My 11 year old is actually asking me if he can go to school. I never thought I'd see the day! I kept him home on Monday and Tuesday to celebrate the Russian Christmas, but he got sick on Monday, so he would have been home anyway. At least we have the excuse of Christmas that won't count against his absences. Today is Friday. He is still sick.

Son had a really high fever. I don't know how high it actually got because he stayed at my mom's house at Christmas, but when he came home it was 103.7. You know how when you're really sick and then you start to feel better, you think you feel SO much better? Well, last night he told me he thought his fever was gone and he could go to school today. I took his temp. - 102.7! He couldn't believe it! "The thermometer must be broken!", he replied. I took my daughter's temp. just to make sure. Nope, her temp. was normal. It wasn't broken. The school rule is your temp. has to be below 100 for 24 hours.

I got all of my son's work from school, so that won't be a problem. At least now he has all weekend to catch up on his work and get all better. Oh, then I realized! TONIGHT is the school dance! So that's why you want to go to school! Actually I wouldn't mind if he went if his temp was down, but I don't think the school would allow it. Sorry! I just don't think it would be fair to everyone at school to send him in. Maybe next time.

It seems like so many blogs that I've been reading, everyone is talking about their kids or themselves being sick! Everyone in my house has been sick. My husband and I both have terrible colds right now. Is there anyone who has managed to stay healthy?

You're right . . . it seems as if everyone in the blogging world is fighting something. Aside from some head colds, we've managed to avoid the stomach thing (I hope I just didn't jinx myself!).

Hope everyone feels better soon. God bless.

Not here. We've had illness on and off for at least 2 months, and no one has been untouched. Not sure if we've all had the same thing, it seems to be different for everyone. But we've all been ill in one way or another for what seems like FOREVER!!!

I have a countdown on my blog waiting for Spring to arrive....

Sorry your son has to miss the dance. :( That's a bummer. But I hope he'll be bette soon!

Yes, you can certainly tell it's that time of year, everyone I speak to has something. My family seems to be passing the same cold or virus back and forth over and over again. Thankfully, nothing more than a stuffy nose and scratchy throat, not high fevers like your son. Over 103 is pretty high up there, but not too unusual for kids. Probably just a virus that needs to run it's course. It really does seem to take it all out of them, though doesn't it? My kids behave like wet noodles when they have fevers.

For what it's worth, I think you made a good call nixing the school dance. He might think he feels better, but once he'd start dancing and getting sweaty, etc. he'd probably feel terrible. Being a mom stinks sometimes when we have to make those types of decisions, we're not always the most popular person in the house! :) Hope you and your husband get over your colds and the rest of your family stays healthy. Take care!

Yikes! That's a fever! No wonder 102.7 felt better.

Healthy is relative.

It's winter and I have two kids. I only use 4 tissues a day and sneeze a handful of times, therefore I am healthy.

Well, no one is sick here, but now I am not sure we will stop over tomorrow. Sounds like too many germs over at your place right now!

Yesterday, I'd have happily announced "ME! ME! I'm still healthy" but then this morning I woke up feeling like GARBAGE and have a bad cold and can hardly go two seconds without needing to blown my nose or cough. wahhh!

I hope your son feels better soon!!!

I so far have stayed relatively healthy. Slight sore throat for a few days but nothing more! I hope I don't jinx myself! The sweater I bought was an off white color that buttons all the way down!I really liked it but it did look better on the model!!! I tried on a lot of sweaters also but I hated the way they looked also!!!!!! I hope your son feels better. Bummer about the dance. There will be more! Have a great weekend.

Oh, don't jinks me! We did have the visit to the hospital with Peanut before Christmas. My doctor once told me kids get sick an average of every 6-8 weeks. Here's hoping you have a break for a while.

Thanks for stopping by Maria! My husband is really weary about the whole internet thing. He is very computer savy and knows to much of what is going on out there!
Have a nice weekend!

Hi Maria. It is good to get parenting ideas etc. from others out in the blogging world. Bummer that you guys are all sick. We've all had something since Thanksgiving. It just won't leave this house. Yuck. I'm going through lysol wipes like you would not believe!

Ok, I knew it. I should have never read this post, much less comment. Now I'm getting a cold. Thanks a lot! :)

I'm doing fine, but then I work in a Dr.'s office and so I have a relatively hearty immune system!! Being around the ill and ailing on a regular basis does have it's advantages I guess. I have to admit that we have seen our fair share of the "crud" this year...but only 1, count it 1, documented case of influenza...I am so sorry for all of the above and now I can only hope that this "boasting" does not backfire and I get sick...Good health to you all!!!!!
