Now this picture doesn't make me feel so bad. Last night I was helping my son go over his spelling words. Today is his test. I would give him the words to spell. He wrote them down. Then we would go over the ones he missed. There were only 8 words, yet he managed to missed on average 4 every time! After about 1/2 hour I said, "Go upstairs and have your dad give them to you." Survivor was on, you know.
After about 1 minute he came back downstairs, "I got them all right mom!". Hmm... We'll see about that when the test comes back home.
This morning on the way to school, I was giving my son his spelling words again.
"How do you spell still?"
"S-T-I-L-L"
"Good! How do you spell spot?"
"S-T-O-P"
"No." Then he finally figured it out.
"How do you spell down?"
"D-O-W-O"
Huff, "No."
"Oh! D-O-W."
"How do you spell which?"
"W-H-O-T"
?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then I quickly reminded him how to spell them.
"So, how'd I do mom?"
Ugh!

Cute :)
Hope he does well today!
hope he aces it! in so many ways, i feel like you are talking about my john, sometimes! just now when he said, "whot!!" that is just how my john would say it. that's too funny.
What a cutie pootie! Sounds like YOU are raising some good kids. :)
What I want to know is, what exactly did Daddy do with him upstairs?
Too funny. I'll be interested to see how the test turns out.
Oh my goodness, this is so my life!
My oldest (9) can't spell to save her life! She is getting a low D in spelling. I feel ya!
If I didn't have spell check I would be in big trouble. I hope he does well on his test!
hi maria! so you think we are on the same team? lol thanks for the comments!
It sounds like he's trying so hard! :-) I bet all of a sudden something will just click and he'll remember them all! Hope he does well!

Have a great weekend, too!
At least he is a good sport about getting them wrong...my daughter gets MAD, frustrated...I dread when she asks me how to spell something- for crying out loud she's in Kindergarten and gets everything wrong and yet expects to be right everytime. I really hope she outgrows this frustration and gets a little more understanding.
So how did he do?
Have a great weekend.
Poor kid! Spelling is usually more difficult for boys than girls. I'm sure he will excel at math and science.
Is that picture for real? Insane. Your son is a cutie!
Too funny.... love the sotp sign...made me feel at home... as in SA lots of signs are OFF.
OH NO! I don't look forward to having to study for spelling tests with my kids. I remember doing it with the kdis I used to nanny for and it was always such a chore (them not wanting to, me having to force the issue, blah blah blah). sigh...
that picture is hilarious, though!! ROFL
This is way tooooo funny!!! Thanks for brightening my DAY!!! Cathy
Methinks that Daddy wasn't really listening when the words were spelled. Hope he did alright on his test.
And that picture? Cracks me up.
His spelling sounds a little like what the words look like when I'm typing on the computer. I just get to typing so fast that the letters get all jumbled up. Maybe he's just thinking too fast :)
In my son's spelling test last week, he had to spell the days of the week. The teacher failed him because he joined the capital letters to the following letters :-( x
omg. this was soooo my brother. i used to HATE doing spelling with him. he has an engineering degree from u of m and if he doesn't spell check his emails i can't read them!
I feel your pain. My middle son can't spell. One minute he knows the word, and a minute later he spells it completely different, not even close.
Is that a real photo? Hilarious!
love that photo!! Hope the test went well!
I have said a million times that it is no wonder that our kids cant spell. All the things and signs that are purposly misspelled. The stop spelled wrong is too funny. Do you think they really didnt notice?
Spelling words are a challenge in our house too! If it's not spelling words, then it's telling time, or something else! I don't think it gets any easier....
Sounds like my Carino, but that's what spell checkers are for! Don't stress it too much. If you are interested, there are spelling systems like Spalding that help them learn the why's behind the words.
